6 signs your small business client is having cash flow issues

If you know me, you know that I ❤ small biz. My whole small business is around helping other small businesses thrive. But over the last decade, I’ve seen enough clients with cash flow issues to have learned to spot the warning signs.

The biggest threat to freelancers or contractors who work with small businesses is not having their invoices paid in full and/or on time. I personally find this infuriating and insulting. Plus, it’s degrading. Especially when work has been delivered on time, to your client’s satisfaction (and often to lots of praise!).

It can be hard to grapple with a client saying ‘thank you so much for this great work’ and then not honouring their integrity and paying you on time for your work. We’ll talk about what you can do in this situation a little bit later on, but for now, let me share with you six of the warning signs I’ve come to recognise over the years that indicate a client may be having cash flow issues.

Oh, one more thing: this is not an exhaustive list and not every individual item is going to indicate money problems. Remember to look at the whole picture, not just a tiny detail.
