What the Darius Jackson and Jonah Hill misogyny scandals teach us about controlling relationships
The internet is abuzz with two recent celebrity male misogyny scandals. The first is alleged text messages from actor Jonah Hill to his ex-girlfriend surfer Sarah Brady. Hill allegedly sent Brady a list of demands, things he needs in order to feel secure in their relationship.
The second is the tweet sent by fitness instructor Darius Jackson to his (probably at the time of writing this) now ex-girlfriend actress Keke Palmer. After seeing a selfie Palmer posted of an outfit she wore to an Usher concert, Jackson tweeted “It’s the outfit tho … you a mom.”
Folks, it’s time to stop believing the lie that someone telling you how to dress or dictating how much of your own body you can reveal is done from a place of love.
Love doesn’t restrain.
Love doesn’t require you to diminish who you are.
Boundaries are things we impose on ourselves, not others.
This entire Hill/Jackson debacle has been fascinating on so many levels and there’s been a lot of social commentary about it. What fascinates it…
